What is PTACT?
PTACT stands for Pennsylvania Taxidermist Association Certified Taxidermist. This voluntary program is open to all taxidermists, whether or not they're a member of the PTA, and is renewed every 5 years. Unlike several other certification programs, this certification does not require that you compete in taxidermy competitions.
The PTACT program has several goals: to promote the continuing education of taxidermists, to distinguish PTA Certified Taxidermists from non-certified taxidermists, and most importantly to educate the consumer about quality taxidermy and what to look for in a taxidermist.
What will this program do for me?
Becoming a PTA Certified Taxidermist will allow you to distinguish yourself from non-certified taxidermists in your area. You will receive a certificate and a door/window sticker to display in your shop promoting your certification status.
The PTA does not profit from this program. All funds (after administrative costs are removed) will go toward educating the public about quality taxidermy.
Some examples of public education:
Press Releases
- Promotional ads in hunting and fishing digests ("is your taxidermist CERTIFIED?")
- Publications from outdoor writers ("Why you should take your trophy to a certified taxidermist").
- PTA Web-site listings of PTA Certified Taxidermists and the supporting educational programs.
- PTA Booth at Sports Shows explaining about quality taxidermy to the public.
- Monthly posts on taxidermy.net
Judging/Taxidermy education seminar for the public during the annual convention.
